support your kids hobbies
not to much though
or they might turn into these kids.....

Trake likes Pokemon. i'm not the least bit interested.
i told him he needs to find some kids to play with.
He gets online to GOPOKEMON.com and finds a league.

oh boy. erics already giving me a hard time about turning him into a nerd.

So he gets all excited b/c he found a league only 6.5 miles away.
I called Grandpa and asked him to go sit at Gamers Inn with Trake and his friend so they could do Pokemon battles.
My dad called laughing when he got to the place.
The Gamers Inn is by a Brazilian massage place and used uniforms, not the best neighborhood.
There was a room for kids or 50 year olds to play pokemon. i guess its a hobby for all.
2 moms were helping the kids with the battles.
Trake learned he knows nothing about it- its pretty intense.
Now he knows all the cards his piano teacher gave him are old and not to be played anymore (sorry Mary).

The most funniest part, and why hes not going back, was the "special rooms". My dad was cracking up showing them to me....
  • the dungeons and dragons room. oh boy. wizards all over the walls, banners, plaques and the guys...wow, new definition to nerd (if i had a stronger word- i would use it)
  • the computer room (i'm laughing thinking about this) it was a long room, dark with neon lights and computers all lined up. Guys so intent on their little missions in the fantasy wizard world, they didn't notice us laughing at them.
  • the purchasing desk- cigarettes and snacks, every card you can think of from all over the world- a collectors dream.

we've made fun of it enough now that he doesn't want to do it anymore.

ya, shame on me for squashing his dreams.

glad to hear I am not the only mean mom. That was one fad that I could not stand. Every time I found the cards not put away, they ended up in the trash. Ty could not figure out what was happening to all his cards. at least we never had to battle!!

that is mean- if he paid for them-! we mange to find enough teenagers that used to love them to get the pretty cheap. that was before he knew those ones aren't cool (as if anything pokemon is cool)

Funny because at my husbands old work in Utah there were a ton of dudes that were seriously addicted to World of Warcraft and would seriously neglect their wives and play together all night! Seriously, they were the biggest geeks! I am glad you are not encouraging it or he will turn into one of these freaky weird dudes! (watch my own kid when he gets older totally gets into all this crap!)
